Ongoing costs to plan for

Most ongoing costs fall into three areas:

  1. Review visits

  2. Replacement lenses

  3. Solutions

The figures are a guide only so you can budget with confidence.

Annual reviews

Most advanced custom lens wearers benefit from regular ocular checks (often every 6–12 months, or sooner if advised).

  • For Medicare card holders most ocular checkups will be bulk billed.

  • On rare occasions when bulk billing is not applicable, consultation fee of $65 may apply at review visits.

Replacement lenses

Most custom lenses are replaced around 1.5 - 2 years depending on wear and care

  • Scleral lens: ~$600-$1000 per lens

  • Ortho-K: ~$450-$650 per lens

  • Corneal RGP: ~$300-$400 per lens

  • Hybrid lenses: ~$500-$700 per lens

    • Hybrid lenses replacement period may be shorter than other lenses often around 12 months (some may require earlier replacement depending on lens skirt condition and wear)

Solutions

Approximately $30-$50 per month

We’ll recommend a simple, evidence-based care system matched to your lens type and ocular surface needs, and we’ll show you how to keep costs sensible without compromising eye health.

Medicare & Private Health Insurance

  • Medicare covers for the consultation component of the exam, where bulk billing will be applied for clinically warranted ocular examinations.

  • Medicare generally does not cover the cost of contact lenses themselves.

  • Yes. Most "Extras" policies with optical cover will pay a benefit towards the cost of the lenses. We have HICAPS on-site to process this claim instantly, so you only pay the gap.

  • Yes. We understand that specialty vision care is an investment. We can arrange a deposit and instalment plan (e.g., splitting the fee over the first month) to make the process more accessible. Please ask our team.
